How do I become a Creation District Workshop Leader?

The Creation District Director will contact you to schedule a phone call or in-person meeting to go over details and logistics. You will be asked to submit a brief lesson plan and then schedule your first class.
What qualifications do I need to lead a workshop?
We believe in offering our youth high quality workshops so while we would like to invite everyone to teach, we are specifically seeking Workshop Leaders with some relevant experience in teaching their craft, working with youth, or working with folks experiencing homelessness and economic instability. If you’re not sure if you have the right experience, fill out a form anyway and we’ll take a look and let you know!
How long are workshops?
Workshop leaders can schedule workshops anywhere from 45 minutes to two hours.
When can I schedule my first workshop?
The first day of programming at the Creation District will be March 1st, 2017.
Am I responsible for purchasing my own Workshop supplies?
No. The Creation District is a fully stocked art studio and will supply everything on its basic supply list Click on link to see basic supplies. Workshop Leaders can request any special supplies not on the basic supply list. Depending on cost and availability, we may not be able to fulfill all supply requests, but we will work with Workshop Leaders to pursue creative avenues to obtain all necessary supplies.
Are Workshop Leaders Paid?
All Workshop Leaders will be asked to hold one volunteer trial Workshop with no payment. This gives leaders a chance to relationship build with youth and make sure this gig is for you. After the first workshop, the Creation District is able to offer stipends for workshop leaders on a sliding scale. The amount offered is dependent upon experience teaching, experience in your craft, and experience working with youth from disadvantaged backgrounds. After you submit your interest form, the Creation District will review it and make a payment offer. Teachers with less experience may be offered volunteer trial workshops with the intention of moving to paid workshops as they get more teaching experience under their belts.
What are the ages I will be teaching?
The Creation District serves youth ages 16 to 25, but Workshop Leaders can request specific age groups if the material is better suited for a certain population.
How many participants will I be teaching?
The number of participants will vary depending on day, time, and subject, but on average, workshops will range between 5 and 20 youth. Again, Workshop Leaders can request a class size limit if necessary for the material.
Where will I be teaching?
The New Wind Drop-in Center located on 815 S Street in the Creation District Studio on the second floor. The studio is equipped with white boards, a projector, and all supplies on our basic supply list, large tables, and chairs. You are welcome to come by for a tour before you teach your first class.
