GRACE LOESCHER (SHE/HER)

CREATION DISTRICT DIRECTOR

Grace Loescher has served as the founding Director of the Creation District since 2015. Within this role, Grace brings unbridled energy and passion for the healing power of art and social justice. Her work includes leading a group of youth on their first trip out of the country to participate in a service learning project in Mexico, giving youth experiencing homelessness a platform to self-advocate by coordinating the Sacramento Youth Council, putting youth voice at the forefront of all programming decisions by coordinating the Sacramento Youth ARTS Council, helming Creation District Records, Sacramento’s first youth run record label for youth experiencing homelessness, and connecting youth all over Sacramento to music, improvisation, spoken word, and dramatic performance to tell both their individual stories and the larger stores of the social injustices overcome in their journey. Grace is a graduate of Rollins College in Florida with a major in Studio Art and a minor in Theatre Arts. As an artist, she has exhibited works of experiential art, sculpture, and installation. She also works as a practicing artist in the Sacramento community, producing shows, performing at local venues, and creating space for other artists to collaborate and share their work. Grace profoundly believes that creativity is the most important element in discovering who you are, and that all young people should be given opportunities to grow and foster a healthy creative spirit. When taking a break from work, Grace can be found building wind chimes out of forks, performing in poetry slams, or jamming with her newly found queer folk band.

OUTREACH AND INTEGRATION director

Kela Abeleda is currently working as the Outreach and Integration Director for Waking the Village. They recently switched career paths from cosmetology after realizing their love for youth outreach and would like to one day offer gender affirming haircuts to gender noncomforming youth. With a new found desire to help the community they are currently hosting outside arts and glee clubs as well as help navigate the youth to essential resources. A lover of the arts and nerd culture they are eager to support the youths on their journey for independence. Kela heals by eating anchovy feta pesto pizza and climbing trees with their cat Al Dente.
