SOCIAL JUSTICE INSTITUTE
AUGUST 1 - AUGUST 5, 2016
The Creation District takes “Community Service” to the next level with our week long, immersive social justice institute open to youth and young adults. Currently we are offering A Week on the Streets, a five day experience that includes round table discussions with those currently experiencing homelessness, closed meetings with City Council members and policy makers discussing the issue, visits and service opportunities at many local agencies dedicated to homelessness, and an optional full immersion experience of spending a night in a shelter and on the streets. We believe that service is the most meaningful when accompanied by education, solidarity, and relationship building.
The institute will be lead by Grace Loescher (Youth Development Director at Tubman House) and Shehera Hyatt (Director of the California Homeless Youth Project). Bringing a powerful combination of direct service, life experience, and policy background, Grace and Shehera offer true expertise.
